ProfessorChiWangisawellknownscholarandcollectorofChineseart.HiscollectionhasbeenexhibitedatvariousgalleriesanduniversitiesintheU.S.
ChiWangcametotheUnitedStatesasahighschoolstudentin1949.HecompletedbothhisundergraduateandgraduateeducationintheU.S.，receivingaPhDinAmericanDiplomaticHistoryfromGeorgetownUniversityin1969.HesoonbeganteachinghistoryatGeorgetown，wherehestillteachesparttimetoday.ProfessorWangalsotaughtatotherlocalschoolsandlecturedatvariousuniversitiesincludingColumbia，Harvard，Yale，andtheUniversityofHawaii.
ChiWangpreviouslyservedaslibrarianfortheChineseUniversityofHongKong（CUHK）intheearly1970s.WhileatCUHKhealsotaughtAmericanandChinesehistorycoursesandhelpeddeveloptheuniversitygallery.Healsospent47yearsworkingfortheLibraryofCongressandbecametheheadoftheChinesecollection，whichincludesmanuscripts，Chineseclassics，artwork，andcalligraphy.WhileattheLibraryofCongress，ProfessorWangexpandeditsChinesecollectionfrom300，000volumestooveronemillionbythetimeheretired，makingitthelargestcollectionoutsideofChina.
In1995，ProfessorWang，alongwithseveralU.S.diplomats，foundedtheU.S.ChinaPolicyFoundation（USCPF），anonpartisan，nonprofitorganizationinWashington，DCthatpromotesU.S.Chinarelations.AlongwithUSCPF，ProfessorWangisamemberofC100andwasafoundingmemberoftheNationalCommitteeonU.S.ChinaRelations（NCUSCR）.ProfessorChiWanghasalsopublishedseveralbooks，includingObama’sChallengetoChina：ThePivottoAsia（2015），TheUnitedStatesandChinaSinceWorldWarII（2013），BuildingaBetterChineseCollectionfortheLibraryofCongress（2012），GeorgeW.BushandChina：Politics，Problems，andPartnership（2009），andhispersonalmemoir，ACompellingJourneyfromBeijingtoWashington（2011），whichisalsopublishedinChineseas从北京到华盛顿：我的中美历史回忆（2012）.
